A child's life can change in an instant. You can change what happens next.

Your gift supports extraordinary care at the Alberta Children's Hospital when lives and futures depend on it.

Uday had thirteen strokes. He was only 12.
It began with a severe headache. Within hours, Uday was unable to move and struggling to breathe.
At the Alberta Children’s Hospital, doctors discovered that he had experienced multiple clots near his brainstem.
Uday was placed on a ventilator and spent ten days in the ICU. His parents didn’t know whether he would survive—or what his life might look like if he did.
An extraordinary team was ready for him. Neurologists, critical-care specialists, nurses, therapists and many others worked together to protect Uday’s developing brain and give him the strongest possible chance to recover.
Twenty-five days after arriving at the hospital, Uday walked out the doors and went home in time for Christmas.
Your gift can help make extraordinary care possible for the next child who needs it.

Can kids really have strokes?
They can. Although pediatric strokes are rare, they can have devastating effects on a child’s movement, speech, learning and development. They can also be difficult to recognize. Children may not experience or communicate symptoms in the same way adults do, making rapid access to specialized pediatric expertise especially important.
At the Alberta Children’s Hospital, neurologists and critical-care specialists work together to monitor and protect a child’s developing brain, manage complex symptoms and begin planning for recovery.
“At the hospital, we all share the belief that to save a child’s life, we also need to save their future quality of life so they can reach their full potential.”
- Dr. Adam Kirton, pediatric neurologist
This specialized care takes the right people, programs, equipment and technology working together, along with a commitment to finding better ways to help children recover.
When a child’s brain is at risk, every moment matters.
Saving Uday’s life was only the beginning
When Uday began to wake, no one knew how fully he would recover.
With support from his care and rehabilitation teams, he worked to rebuild his strength and regain his movement and independence. Each small sign of progress brought new hope.
Today, Uday is back at school, spending time with his friends and playing music at church. Inspired by the doctors who cared for him, he dreams of becoming a neurologist himself.
Uday didn’t just survive. He got his life back—and a future he’s excited about.

"It was a long road for him to get his strength and mobility back, but one thing we knew: he was in the best hospital with the best team working behind him."
- Samir, Uday's dad
